Crossing the state border of the Republic of Macedonia for individuals:
A citizen of the Republic of Macedonia may cross the state border with a valid travel document (biometric travel document) or another valid document that allows crossing the state border in accordance with a bilateral or international agreement and a visa if required for the country where he/she is traveling.
With an ID card, citizens of the Republic of Macedonia can travel to Serbia, Albania and Montenegro.
The travel document must be signed.
Before traveling, check the validity date of the travel document.
With visa liberalization, citizens of the Republic of Macedonia can travel only for short trips of up to 90 days within a period of 6 months. For stays longer than three months (employment, study, etc.), citizens of the Republic of Macedonia Macedonia should submit an application for a long-stay visa, residence permit or work permit at the diplomatic mission of the country in which they plan to travel and stay for a longer period.
If it is a minor Macedonian citizen under 14 years of age who is traveling without his/her parent or guardian, his/her travel requires written consent from the parents or guardian, certified by the Ministry of Internal Affairs or a notary, or by the diplomatic and consular mission of the Republic of Macedonia abroad, if the person is traveling to the Republic of Macedonia. Considering that the Macedonian-Greek border and the Macedonian-Bulgarian border are also external borders of the European Union (Schengen border), the conditions for entry into the Republic of Greece and the Republic of Bulgaria are the same as for entry into any member state of the Schengen zone. In addition to the basic travel documents, additional documents may be requested by the police officers working at the border crossings when crossing the state border.
TOURIST OR PRIVATE TRIPS
For trips for tourist or private purposes, the following are required: confirmation of accommodation, (voucher) invitation from the host, if staying with the host, confirmation from the organization providing accommodation or other appropriate document stating the intended accommodation; confirmation of the travel itinerary, confirmation of reservation of an organized trip or other appropriate document stating the intended travel plans; confirmation of return, return or return ticket.
BUSINESS TRIPS
For business trips, as evidence of meeting the exit or entry requirements, an invitation from a company or an authority to attend meetings, conferences or events related to trade, industry or work may also be requested; other documents establishing the existence of commercial relations or relations related to work; tickets for fairs and congresses, if attended.
TRAVEL FOR SCHOOLING OR TRAINING
For travel for the purposes of studying or other types of training, a certificate of enrollment in an educational institute for the purpose of following vocational or theoretical courses within the framework of basic and vocational training; a student card or certificates for attending courses are required.
SCIENTIFIC, CULTURAL, SPORTS, RELIGIOUS EVENTS
For travel for scientific, cultural, sports or religious events, or other reasons, invitations, tickets, applications or programs are required, which, if possible, state the name of the host organization and the length of stay, or another certificate stating the purpose of the visit.
FUNDS
Citizens traveling abroad should have sufficient funds (in cash, credit cards, traveler's checks, etc.) to support themselves during the planned period of stay abroad. There is no prescribed amount for sufficient funds because it is individual in relation to the standard of the country where one is traveling, but it is customary to calculate fifty (50) euros per day. The funds can be in cash, traveler's checks and credit cards owned by the citizen and a valid document from a bank for possession of funds.
CROSSING THE BORDER WITH A PASSENGER MOTOR VEHICLE
When crossing a state border with a passenger motor vehicle, in addition to the national driver's license, the driver must also possess an international driver's license issued in the Republic of Macedonia by the Auto Moto Union of Macedonia (except for countries with which the Republic of Macedonia has concluded an agreement for the use of national driver's licenses). The motor vehicle must be adequately internationally insured, i.e. possess a valid green card. If the vehicle is not personal property (according to the traffic license), a license for driving another person's vehicle abroad must be possessed, which is also issued by the AMSM. When crossing the state border with a freight motor vehicle, drivers must possess the same documents as drivers of passenger motor vehicles, a travel order and possession of appropriate permits and documents required for carrying out customs procedures.
PROCEDURE WHEN A TRAVEL DOCUMENT IS LOST OR DAMAGED
If a person is a citizen of the Republic of Macedonia If a person is left without a travel document in a country, he/she must report the loss of the document to the nearest police station and be issued a certificate of the same. Then, with the certificate, he/she should go to the diplomatic-consular mission of the Republic of Macedonia in that country, where the person will be issued a travel document to return to the Republic of Macedonia.
If your travel document is damaged, also contact the nearest diplomatic-consular mission of the Republic of Macedonia where they will issue you a travel document. Before you set off back with a travel document, if you are transiting through several countries, find out whether you will need an appropriate transit visa for any of the planned countries.
